Sunday Snapshot {Where have we been}

Where have we been? Nowhere really except in the land of BUSY!!! Life is busy with 3 little ones to keep up with, not to mention the little ones we both keep up with at school. So needless to say I have neglected my blog once again. But I am here today with a quick update. Thought I would just update on all three of the kiddos and let you know that his momma is is doing good. My new 31 business is being blessed by leaps and bounds and we are so grateful!! We have needed that extra income, but it has kept me busy. But, at the same time I have gotten to make some new friends, and reconnect with old friends so it has been a blessing in more ways than one. Now onto my sweeties, youngest first.

Sweet Ainsley is growing and changing so much. She is starting to say some words: bye-bye, nite-nite, more, mama, daddy, and she tries to say Ethan and Charlotte but those are hard. Oh, and bunny-she LOVES her bunny. We would be lost without him, so I hope we never lose him. She is walking and running, and letting us know when she does not get her way. She has a little bit of a temper, I tell you, she KNOWS what she wants and when she wants it. I have no idea where she gets it from. Here are some recent shots of our little Ainsley-boo. Oh and to my mom's delight, I am pretty sure her eyes are changing and are going to be green. My mom has green eyes so she is THRILLED.

So Charlotte has started taking dance class and LOVES it. She practices at home, and looks forward to Fridays so much. She is also really starting to progress in her speech. She is starting to leave spaces between words and syllables which makes it so much clearer. She is working on isolating sounds and the it is starting to improve everyday! She can write her whole name-bad mommy gave her such a long one. She can identify all of her upper case letters and loves to play on the computer. We still have our struggles and some days are better than others but she is going to be OK, I know. It just takes lots of work and lots of love. And when I think of how far she has come in her 3 years at home, it really is incredible. I think I missed posting about Gotcha Day, we celebrated 3 years on November 5th. The time has gone by so quickly, but I don't remember life without our sweet girl.

And finally, our oldest Ethan!! As you can see he is all about soccer, soccer, soccer!! He just tryed out for a travel team and made it! We are very proud of him, he works really hard to be the best he can be. He is a especially great Goal Keeper! Besides his success on the field, he also made all A's the first nine weeks of fourth grade and is just the best big brother around. He is just a super kid-we love him-lots!!

And so there you have it a little about where we have been....just busy! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. I will be back soon with our year in review.

Sunday Snapshot {She is starting to GET it}

So the questions are beginning....she wants to look at her China books all the time now. Wants to know who those ladies are, where we are in her Gotcha pictures. She asked if we had to call the police to find her when she was lost in China, and then we got her. We answer her questions, on her level and keep an open dialog. We want her to understand everything about being adopted but on her level and with what her 4 year old mind can process. She knows that Ainsley was in mommy's tummy but she was not and that God told mommy and daddy when it was time to come to China and bring her home. She knows she came home on an airplane. And just this week she finally made the connection that some China Girls live in orphanages and she did too. She told her daddy this week, "Daddy, I want to go to China and hug all the babies. I want to tell them that I love them and that their mommys and daddys are coming soon!" Melt your heart right. She also tells me that when she was in China she couldn't wait for me to come and bring her home. So much to process for such a sweet, innocent, little heart. Such a legacy to bear, but we are so honored that God chose us to be a part of His story and Charlotte's story.

And we will help her the best we can, every step of the way!!

Sunday Snapshot {My Baby is 1-what?!?}

I can't even believe it at all, it really makes me kind of sad. But, my baby girl is 1 already!! I tell people all the time if Ainsley had been the first and all the babies after her were like her we would have a house full-ha!! She is just a sweet tempered thing, usually entertains herself, and loves to cuddle. A girl after her mommy's heart for sure. We celebrated her 1st Birthday with family and her very own cake. I was picturing her just digging in-but she was very lady like and just took small bites.

Her name is now Theresa and she is doing well. Still in need of a new heart.. and she has a heart cath today so please pray for this sweet girl. I know I have been absent from my blog as of late, but I have been busy!! I have a new business and I am so excited about it!!! I am an Independent Thirty-One Consultant! Here are my sweet girls enjoying a snack together while mommy vaccumed! They sat so nice and still in the brown chair until I was all finished. I have to remember this trick for next time I guess. And in looking at these pictures, I can't believe how big they are both getting. And isn't Charlotte so tan, I use 50spf sunscreen on her everytime she is in the sun. Wish I could get dark like that! Thanks so much to my sweet friends who left comments on my last post! It makes me feel so much more at ease. I have been kind of reluctant to make that post, feeling in some ways like I was letting my adoption friends down. I know that seems funny to say, but I don't like to leave things undone or to fail at something I start. And I know that I am not really failing, just following but still. Anyway, thanks to my sweet friends-I love you guys!!

Hard Decision

Many of you that have read our blog for a while, know that Jay and I started the process to go back to China and adopt again before we knew about Ainsley. And, even after we found out that I was pregnant we continued the process and were actually LID on 9/1/2009. We knew we wanted time to pray, live life as a family of 5 and pray some more to see where God was leading our family. This has not been an easy decision by any means. We have gone back and forth so many times. Sometimes me, sometimes Jay, sometimes both of us. We both have such a heart for orphans, and have love to give. We were actually in the middle of our home study update to update our I800 when we had to make a very difficult decision. We knew God was showing us that the time was now to decide for sure if we were going back to China. And for many reasons that I won't go into publically we have decided that for now our family is complete. God showed us that we needed to get some other things in order before we are ready to bring home another baby. Not saying it won't happen in the future, we will go where God leads but right now He wants us to focus on the 3 we have at home and on getting ourselves in order. This has been the toughest decision we have made in our marriage. It has been even tougher than deciding to go to China the first time, but since we contacted our agency and made everything final I have felt at peace with the decision. I know God, has placed the world's orphans on my heart in a mighty way. And we will continue to advocate and fight for all those left behind, that will not change. And I think I will always feel like I left a little bit of my heart in China with those still longing for the love of a mommy and daddy. But we have a very special little girl with us now, that needs all of the love and attention we can give her. We are going to do just that. We are going to pray for the 143 million orphans still waiting and we are going to get our family in line with God. We are going to go where He leads, and are excited for what the future may hold.

Sunday Snapshot {My Little Sweetie Pie}

Charlotte always introduces Ainsley as "My little sweetie pie," which is just so adorable, isn't it. She really loves her baby sister and Ainsley loves her big sis just as much. She squeals with delight in the mornings when she sees Charlotte for the first time. Next sunday I am going to try and have some shots of them together in action. But these photos I took today were too cute not to post right away. I think they really show her personality. She is full of spunk, believe me. She even has a little temper. I know you don't believe it with that sweet little smile. But she has already thrown temper tantrums when not getting her way. And she does not give up easily. Say a couple of extra prayers for me. Two little fiesty girls-I need it!!!!-HA!

Wow, you would think with it being summer that I would have more time to blog-HA!! I am super busy between everyone being home, camps, cook-outs, organizing VBS..lovin' it, but busy. So, I am behind and this post is about my girls.

Last weekend we celebrated Charlotte's 4th birthday! I cannot believe that she is 4 already. It just does not seem possible.

This was her first birthday that we invited friends and not just family. She was super excited and talked about it for weeks. We went to our local Little Gym for some jumping fun.

Charlotte loved the "free time" but was not big on the organized game time.

She did finally participate at the end when Nana talked her into going with her-go NANA!!

Then we sang Happy Birthday, her favorite part, and had some cake.

We opened gifts at home later and she loaded up on all sorts of fun My Little Pony goodies. She is one lucky girl.

And my sweet Ainsley is changing everyday. She is losing her little baby look and is turning into a toddler before our eyes. She is starting to cruise on the furniture and can get wherever she needs to go.

She is also a master at finding every little tiny thing on the floor and promptly putting it in her mouth. She is so fast, I can hardly keep up. She is really giving me a run for my money. She is beginning to be more vocal now and loves to babble and talk to us, and sing!!

She also lets us know if anyone takes something from her. This little girl can squeal like nobody's business. But it gets mama's attention and that's what she needs.

We had a fun 4th with a neighborhood cook-out but I neglected to get any pictures-boo :( Ethan is off to camp this week which makes me sad. I will be without my #1 helper this week. I will be so happy to get him home, but I know he is going to have an incredible week. Till next time, I will try to be a better blogger, promise. Caring for the Orphan

Okay, so I know I am blogging about the same thing again but it is heavy on my heart right now. Not sure why, but God knows why, and so I am going to keep sharing. I have been reading so many blog posts about the same thing. I really don't think everyone gets it. I don't think they really understand how some children live day in and out. One thing I do know is once your eyes are opened, can you really turn your back on all you have seen. The easy answer, NO!! Can you imagine your child spending 20 hours plus a day in a crib? It is a reality for some children living in orphanages in the world. Please read this post, by another adoptive mom who shares some very valuable and heart breaking insight. Our Charlotte did not spend all of her time in a crib, I know as I have pictures of her crawling around the orphanage, but I also have lots of her in her crib.

And part of her head is flat on one side, because she spent so much time as an infant laying down on a hard crib. I know that is hard to think about, it breaks my heart to but it is a reality.

You may not be called to adopt a child yourself, but God does call us to care for the orphan no doubt about it. What will you do to care for the least of these? Please share your ideas with us, it may inspire someone else to do the same thing.

I know most of you that read my blog are adoptive parents yourselves but for those of you that are not, this post is for you. Jay and I have talked several times about the fact that we are suprised that no one we know has felt called to adopt. We always hope that our story and Charlotte's journey will open other's eyes to the needs of orphans not only in other countries but here at home. I guess we assumed that God would use our story to speak to the hearts of others, and maybe he has we just don't know it. But I wanted to take a second to just say that our lives have been so completely transformed since the day we set foot in that small room in China and held our Sha Sha for the very first time. TRANSFORMED!!! So many times people say, she is so lucky to have you and the truth is we are so blessed to have her. She has made each one of us better and God has used our sweet girl to open our hearts and minds to his calling. I just want to ask you, is HE calling you. I know at times so much about adoption is overwhelming, the paperwork, THE COST, the unknowns, stepping out of our comfort zone. But, do you have extra love and space in your heart...if you do there are almost 150 million orphans in the world that are ready to fill that space. I promise your life will be TRANSFORMED too. Just pray about it if you would, think about it and look at our sweet girl and how transformed she has become. There are 150 million children just like her. They each deserve a chance to have a family, to have love, and to have some one to kiss their boo boos when they fall. Is HE calling you??

Just needed to write....

They last few days/weeks have been down right weird. We have some strange stuff goin' on at school, I am still working through a tough family situation, the end of the school year is upon us-busy, and dealing with some issues with our house. Yet in it all I have remained suprisingly calm, believe it or not. And this is HEAVY stuff, that I just condensed into the previous run on sentence. Now of course, I still have my moments, of frustration and wondering if I can really do this. Like last night. I worked all day yesterday, and the kids at school are READY for summer. Then was home for oh about, 90 minutes. Jay came home, only to have to head right back out to a PTA meeting so he dropped the girls at his mom's and I took Ethan to night 2 of Soccer Evaluations. Left the soccer field, picked up the girls, headed home, heated up dinner for Ethan and I and got the girls in the bath. Made a bottle and milk for the girls. Layed Ainsley down, finally got back to my dinner and then Jay was home, thank goodness because I was running on fumes by that point. Charlotte in bed, then Ethan and I fell asleep while my poor hubby was trying to talk to me. Yet, I was still able to wake up this morning and get some stuff accomplished and my to do list is long right now. So I am just writing to say, with tears in my eyes that I am so thankful I have a peace from my God today. A peace the surpasses all knowledge and all understanding. A peace that helps me get through every second of the day, knowing that HE is ultimately in control. Thank you Lord!

Sunday Snapshot {Sha Sha}

Did not have a specific event to post about today so I thought I would take the opportunity to share some unposted pics and info about our sweet Sha Sha! She is full of spunk I tell you, the most strong willed little thing I have ever met. She gives us a run for our money everyday! I know she is that way for oh so many reasons....she had to overcome so many obstacles for 16 months on her own, one of which was eating. And she needs that strong will to keep pressing on in her biggest obstacle-SPEECH.

It is hard for CL/CP kids to make all the ordinary sounds. I never analyzed our language and how we speak before Charlotte came home, but I do now. Some sounds are almost impossible for our girl, but she tries over and over. She does not get frustrated very often, she will just try again, or give you something else to help with the context of what she is saying. Occasionally she goes back to a trusty hand sign if Mommy is just not getting it.

We met to evaluate her IEP (individualized education plan) this week and she has come so far. She is about to complete her second year in developmental Preschool and she has graduated from Occupational Therapy. That is so huge...her motor skills have now exceeded her age, and she has met all of her eating goals and mobility goals for her lip. She is also almost caught up in her language skills, only 2 months behind peers now. So now her hard work will be concentrated on academics and articulation. She will have speech 3 times a week, once one on one.

It really is incredible when you think about the fact that when she came home, she was not walking, only drank from a bottle, had no sounds at all, and was very behind in most sensory areas. In just 2 1/2 short years she has almost completely caught up. And really her speech delay now is due to her cleft palate. I am so proud of her hard work and perseverance. See, God knew this little girl had to be strong willed to overcome so much. Now if we can just convince her that she still has to do what Mommy and Daddy say the first time :) It will come, or she will just be spending most of her summer in TIME OUT!!! Just kidding, we are about to implement some new positive reinforcement techniques. I will let you know what we do and how they work out.

Sunday Snapshot {Happy Birthday My Jay!}

My post this week is about my favorite guy in the whole world! I love him so very much, and feel so blessed that God picked him for me.

Don't think I have ever shared the story of how we started dating, so here goes. We were in college and both in the top choir. I was a music major, but Jay was not, he just loved singing. He was also 2 years behind me in school. I had "noticed" him when he was a Freshman the year before but the spring of his sophomore year, my senior year we started to hang out. Our friendship grew and we just had lots of fun together. Now, I had already realized that he was "the one," but Jay was not just there yet. I made sure to put myself in situations where we could get to know each other more. We both attended meetings/dinners at the Wesley Foundation on campus and both decided to go on a mission trip to New York. If was after that trip, we both finally knew something special was happening. We started dating, shared a kiss and just days later I lost my dad to a fatal heart attack. I know WOW, but I know that God brought Jay into my life at just the right time. He was so good to me during that time, he held me, cried with me, tried to make me smile, went through the funeral with me, everything. And that was pretty much it, we were never far apart after that. God had taken one special person out of my life, but he had brought my sweet husband to me at the same time. About a year and half later we were engaged, and then married.

Now, let me brag on my sweet guy for just a minute. He is the BEST DADDY in the whole world.

He always shares the load with me, cleans up after dinner, and bathes the girls. He is one of Ethan's soccer coaches, always practices with him, and entertains him on the Wii.

He loves to play with My Little Pony's and always, always showers me with affection.

And not only does he give us love, but he also looks out for 700+ kids and staff at his job (he is an assistant pricipal at an elementary school.) And if that were not enough, he leads worship at our church. He picks the praise music, practices once and week, and even prepares all the computer stuff for each Sunday. He is a blessing to so many people and the kids and I are so grateful that he is OURS.

Sunday Snapshot {Fun Fridays}

Life can be so overwhelming and stressful at times. I know you have all been there too. A couple months ago after one of those weeks, I felt like I just needed to get away. A couple of years ago we would have packed up Ethan (the only one we had at the time.) And headed off on an overnight adventure somewhere. But now we have 3, and the funds are not as overflowing either, so instead we headed off to a picnic dinner and the park. I posted about it here in another {Sunday Snapshot}.

Then about a month ago, Jay so that Watoto was coming to a town about 2 hours away. Now, I am a music teacher (children's choir is my passion) and I'm an adoptive momma so this was right up my alley.

And I knew the kids would love it too. So we packed up the car and headed out. We were not disappointed, it was a beautiful concert, filled with beautiful children who have an amazing story to share with the world. Now to this week, again it was overwhelming. And it is not my kids or husband, it is another situation that seems to be never ending. I know it will resolve eventually, but it is sucking my joy out sometimes. So it was time again to just "get away." This Friday we headed down to the beach (we only live about 30-40 minutes away.)

We took hot dogs to grill out, and toys for the sand. The beach we go to is so nice, with a bathroom, playground, shelters with grills and easy access to the sand and beautiful water. It was gorgeous, the kids played at the little park, while daddy cooked up the dogs. Then we headed down to the sand.

Charlotte and Ainsley enjoyed the sand and our crazy son went swimming in the 60 degree water!

It was a fun evening. Walking back to the car, Ethan said we should call these trips {Fun Fridays}. So far our trips have all happened on fridays, so seems appropriate to me. And we are going to keep it up, at least once a month is the goal.

Go on a little trip as a family, and for not much $$$. Can't wait for our next Fun Friday!

Sunday Snapshot {Our Soccer Star}

Ethan is a really great athlete. He loves all kinds of games, and is very motivated to practice them until he is good at it. He started playing soccer when he was just 3 years old and was so cute to watch back then.

We then took a little detour playing baseball for a while, but are back in soccer world and he, and we, are loving it. We spent this weekend on the field for our first spring tournament. We did not make it to the Championship game, but our guys played so hard. We ended up with 3 ties, so undefeated :) Ethan usually switches out between goal keeper and right forward.

We are so proud of his hard work out there on the field. And especially proud of the great teammate he is. Always encouraging to his fellow teammates, and doing whatever it takes to help his team win. He has many battle wounds from this weekend, but he is tough and stayed in the game no matter what.

Ethan, we are so very proud of you, bud!!

You had an awesome tournament, and we can't wait for the next one!

Sunday Snapshot {Our Miracle #3}

All children are a miracle and a gift from God, but we feel so blessed to have Ainsley in our lives. I know many of my regular readers know "our story." But I love to share it because, it is such a story of God's faithfulness and perfect plan! We really have very little trouble getting pregnant the first time-we decided to start trying and about 6 months later Ethan was on the way. When Ethan was about 18 months old, we started trying for #2 and that is where our story really becomes God's story of faithfulness. After almost a year, we were finally pregnant again, but we lost that baby soon after and I was devastated. We pressed onward, doing everything WE could to make another baby, but nothing. So WE decided to turn to doctor's for help, 2 years of treatment later WE had done it!! We made a baby not the old fashioned way, but with the help of some incredible science and doctors.

Disclaimer: Please don't take this wrong, I truly believe that God has blessed some with the knowledge and expertise to help others grow their families, in this way. And it is a MIRACLE, for sure!! It just was not the WAY for us. And, we did not realize it at the time.

Anyway back to the story, we were successful at IVF with the one and only embryo we had, but again we lost the baby. This is where I really entered into a dark spot in my life. I was so angry with God. So angry that WE had done everything WE could to make a baby and He had taken it all away-AGAIN!! It was a long 3-4 months after that. But then it all changed-instead of US doing it, instead of doing all WE could, WE took a leap of faith and decided maybe OUR way was not the only way. We turned it all over to God and that's when the miracles started happening!!! We signed on with America World in May of 2006 and began our paper chase. After 6 short months we were logged into China's system, and a just 7 months lately we were looking at the face of our daughter (miracle #2.) Then 4 months after that we were holding her for the first time. I am so incredibly grateful that God took us on that journey, the journey to our sweet Charlotte. It has changed us and our family so much!! Now here is a little seed most do not know, about 3 weeks before we left for China, I once again had a miscarriage. I thought really are you serious?!? Why?!? In some ways I think it was God showing me that yes, HE was still in control, and yes I could still get pregnant. So off we went and the next year was filled with everything Charlotte. And then 14 months later, I could hardly believe it but God was giving us our Miracle #3. I was pregnant!!!! It was very hard to be excited at first, I really kept waiting for it to all be taken away. But God was faithful and gave us so much more than we could have ever thought or imagined. If it had not all worked out this way, we probably would not have Charlotte in our family. This was HIS design all along, and there was nothing WE could do to stand in His way. Our family is such a picture of his PERFECTION! WE are so blessed and can't wait to see what else God has in store for our growing family.

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, "to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21

Sunday Snapshot: {Family Time}

I know it is Tuesday; this post is a couple of days late.....

To say that I have had a stressful last couple months would be an understatement, and I can't really go into detail about it yet. Prayers are appreciated, but it is all putting such a strain on life. Sometimes you just have that feeling that you want to move far, far away (with my hubby and kids of course, they are not the cause of the stress; they are my real true delight.) So on Friday, after having such a hard day we packed up the kids and headed to a local park for a picnic dinner, time on the playground and a walk around the lake. It was so nice to just concentrate on being a family, and enjoying the outdoors. It was a welcome change and I felt so much more rejuvenated. We did stop at Sam's Club on the way home, so still a little work, but it was a wonderful evening.

Ethan spent his time, practicing his soccer tricks and juggling. And it paid off, he won the juggle off at practice on Monday-go Ethan!!!

Daddy and Charlotte had fun on the slide. Charlotte just thought that Daddy was so silly for sliding down himself.

Then we went for a walk and Mommy made Ethan and Charlotte pose for a photo op. Charlotte was happy to and Ethan was not so into it, but that's okay this time.

And Ainsley, she was her usual cute, happy self!!

I have a beautiful family, and am so blessed!! I may have some exciting news soon so stay tuned :)

Having Fun with Lightroom

So this moring, I decided to download the trial version of Adobe Lightroom. I knew once I played with it I would WANT it, so I had been putting it off. But after seeing some shots on another blog, I could not resist any longer. I LOVE IT!!! (hint, hint, honey-mother's day is around the corner!) Anyway look and see what you think.

Memorial Box Monday: The Wait

Okay, this is my first memorial box post, but I am really excited to get in on this type of journaling. You can read more about Memorial Boxes here....really is a great way to remember all of the amazing things God has done in our lives.

When we were waiting for our referral for Charlotte and for all the approvals to go and bring her home, I felt incredibly close to the Lord. I think mostly because it was the only way I could make it through the wait. Knowing and feeling that He was completely in control, brought me extraordinary peace so very many times. Now don't get me wrong, I had my fair share of impatience and fear as we waited. Especially once I "knew" who and where our Charlotte was, she needed her mommy :) Just recently I received an email from another adoptive mom that was part of my agency's yahoo group.

Hi Carla-- A while back, actually a looong while back, in 2007, you sent an email to the "Waiting Children" list that ministered to me in a powerful way. It was an exerpt from a book "Hope for the Journey". I printed it and have kept it in my quiet time binder, referring back to it many times over the years, and even now as we await the arrival home our our little boy from China. The email is dated Aug. 10th, 2007 and the subject is "Something To Think About". I know it's a long shot, but by chance do you still have that one and could you forward it to me? I would like to send it to a friend who is growing weary in the wait for her little girl from China.

Well, I went back and looked and found the email. I did not even remember sending it to be honest, but to know that not only did God speak to me through that story, but he led me to type it out to send to others. And then it spoke to other's hearts and still is now 3 years later, tells me I may need to read it again now and maybe in the future so it is fitting that it be my first entry in my box.

Here is the email I sent that day:
Good Morning Everyone,

I was reading this morning a book we received from Shaohannah's Hope called "Hope for the Journey, an adoption companion." We received it after applying for a grant, anyway I wanted to share the following excerpt with you, because it really hit home for me.

Look to God
-Eric and Mizie Tibbets adopted from Russia and in the process for
Guatemala.

"During your adoption journey you are likely to become child-focused
instead of God focused. You might even think more about the creation
instead of the Creator. Let me chanllenge you that if you are
longing more for the child instead of the Savior, you may want to
pause and take inventory of your relationship with God. After many
years of infertility and empty arms, it is easy to be impatient for
the blessing of a child. I'd like to share a few truths we learned
as we journeyed with God:
-You aren't on man, you are waiting on God.
-God isn't going to send you where He is absent.
-God is not bound by geography, timelines, politics or finances.
-God hasn't asked you to walk this path alone. Not only will He
remain with you each step of the way, He has prepared many warriors
to go into battle with you. You'll be amazed at who He uses to meet
your needs.
-Don't put serving the King on hold. Waiting doesn't equate to
idleness. Invest in the wait; don't waste it.
-God's gifts to us are never late; they are always on time and far
beyond what we could ever imagine.
Adoption is about stewardship. Your child and everything you possess
belongs to God. During the wait, surrender it all to God, for His
glory."
Each step of the journey for me sometomes seems like one
more "chance" to wait. But it is in the perserverence that God shows
Himself to me. Be strengthend and encouraged in your stage of the
wait today. It will be so worth it in the end. Here's to the wait:)

And even today, this email is reminding me of my "chance" to wait. I have some things going on now, that I can not control, as I would like, but am having to just wait and pray. God will work it out in his timing, and I know beyond a shadow that it will be so much better than I could even dream up.

Sunday Snapshot

A couple of Charlotte's favorite things: playing outside and singing! She loves to be outside, and I mean she loves it. I remember when we first brought her home, every time we were outside and the wind would blow, she would get this huge grin on her face and just breathe it all in. I don't think she spent much time if any outside of the orphanage, so the fresh air was just so invigorating to her. She also did not let her bare feet touch the grass for quite a while, she has overcome that now and this little girl loves to play. Now that it is spring, we are spending lots of time outside in the afternoons. Here she is playing soccer the other day, and getting super excited when she told me she SCORED!!

Then singing, she absolutely loves to, poor thing...I am holding out hope that one day she will match pitch. (And she will if her music teacher momma has anything to say about it!) But for now she sings LOUD and PROUD. When she goes to church early with daddy, she always wants to practice with the praise team. She always says, "I sing LOUD!!" Make a joyful noise, right!?!

Thankful Thursday

Life has been so up and down for me lately. It seems that any little thing that is at all a conflict or stressful in the least sends me over the edge. (Can it still be pregnancy hormones? Yeah, didn't think so!) So I am trying to refocus, and get stuff back into perspective you know. So I am going to get back to my Thankful Thursday posts and help me concentrate on all that is good and all the blessings we have in our life.

1. The sweet relationships our children have with each other. Of course, they get on each other's nerves some times but they so often show love towards each other and that makes my heart happy :)

2. I don't have to work full-time, just part-time and that gives me 50% of my week at home, which I would not trade for anything!

3. I love the spring weather and playing outside with the girls so much fun!

4. We have beautiful house and I am looking forward to continuing to make it OUR home. Even though we have been her just about 7 months, it is still not our home, yet. I hope this spring and summer to make it OURS.

Still Praying for Lucy

Please keep praying for Lucy. As of friday a family still has not stepped up yet. You can read the blog post about her here. I wish we could be her family, but I know she needs a mommy that can spend a significant amount of time with her in the hospital and that's not us right now. I have prayed about it, and don't feel God leading us to bring her home but I do feel called to advocate and pray for her. I love that you can see her sweet personality through her pictures. And no matter what turns her life takes, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is using her, using her life for good. I also know that there is a very real possibility that the lack of surgical intervention so far, may have severely affected her chances. She may also not be a good cantidate for a transplant as her lungs may not be able to take the pressure of it all. So I will continue to pray for this sweet girl who has forever taken a little piece of my heart. I hope you will too!!!

Will you pray for Lucy? She is an orphan in China waiting for a forever family and has a very serious heart condition. She needs surgery and will most likely need a transplant in the future. Lucy needs a miracle.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

I cannot stand by and do nothing for this child. Like so many others, though, we are not in a position to adopt again right now. But I can pray for her. I can pray for a family to step forward.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if we as a community could come together and cover Lucy with prayer for 24 hours? Wouldn’t it be amazing to see what God can do through this child?
Honestly, I don’t know how God will answer our prayers. I don’t know how Lucy’s life will end up. But what I do know is God will not turn his back on Lucy. She is not alone. While we may not understand it, her life has a purpose.
Will you join me on your knees in prayer for Lucy? Will you pray:
That a family will step forward and claim her as their daughter? Will you pray that once the family submits their letter of intent that China and the United States will expedite all their paperwork and they can hold Lucy in record time?
Will you pray for peace for this extraordinary family? Will you pray that even though Lucy has significant medical challenges ahead of her that they will find strength and support they never imagined.
Will you pray for Lucy? Pray she remains strong. Pray she can hold on for just a little while longer until her mommy and daddy find her.
The 24 hour prayer chain for Lucy will be on Thursday, March 18 starting at 6:00 am and will end on Friday at 6:00 am. Ainsley is 6 months old....already!!

Our sweet Ainsley turned 6 months old yesterday!!! It does not seem possible, the time has just completely flown by. She is already holding toys, eating cereal, babbling, almost sitting on her own, rolling over, trying to crawl and she loves to laugh!! She is such a sweet girl.

And big sister Charlotte is loving the warm weather!!! She is riding her tricycle so well, and just loves to play outside. We are going through one of those trying phases though as well. Having to remind her lots that what Mommy and Daddy says goes, even if you don't like it:) It is so hard to be 3 and a 1/2.

Charlotte was not in a picture taking mood, so this is the only shot with her :( We had a fun Valentine's Day-we all wore red to church this morning and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to get a few shots of the kiddos!

Ethan is a very good big brother!! Always helping and taking care of his sisters, they are lucky to have him. We are too!

This week is about my sweet love-Ainsley!! And she is just that, she is so cuddly and loving. She loves to smile and coo and give kisses. She especially likes it when you smile back at her. She loves her brother and sister so much and loves for them to interact with her. She really is a love, and I feel so blessed to be able to experience having an infant in the house again. It really is something I had given up on, but now I cherish every special little moment we have together. Our sweet Ainsley!

Snow, Snow, Snow!!

It has been 5 years since we had some real snow around here, not just flurries or a dusting. Ethan hardly even remembers playing in it since he was 5 the last time we had some and it was while we were moving-yuck!! This was Charlotte's first ever snow. She was not too sure about it at first, but warmed up to it quickly. We had a lot of fun, and the 9 inches we got will be here for at least the next couple of days. I love snow!! Here are some shots of the kids enjoying the snow, Ainsley is under the weather and was asleep so none of her. Hopefully, I can bundle her up for a photo shoot later today.

WEARY…..

I am in a word weary right now. It is defined as exhausted in strength, endurance, vigor or freshness and I feel all of those things. I have been sick for over a week now and on antibiotics but still not feeling physically 100%. Also still struggling with being back at work, where I need to be financially, but where my heart is totally not . And having to work through some hard decisions with extended family, it just makes me want to scream, cry, throw my fists in the air, but to what end that does that bring. None, really. Sure for a few minutes I feel an emotional release but it is short lived and best and leaves me asking why life seems so unfair at times. It seems so trivial in light of all that is happening in the world. All the suffering and tragedy, so many wondering where the next bite of food will come from and sleeping in the street, scared for the next after shock. But I guess we all have our quakes of sorts to work though in our lives.

Two passages come to mind:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Do you not know?
   Have you not heard?
       The LORD is the everlasting God,
       the Creator of the ends of the earth.
       He will not grow tired or weary,
       and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
       and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
       and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
       will renew their strength.
       They will soar on wings like eagles;
       they will run and not grow weary,
       they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31

But this too shall pass right? I need to concentrate on what I can do, what I can move on now and rely on the ONE who has brought me here, brought me this far, given me an amazing husband and 3 incredible children, loving friends and family, and talents to share with others. Frankly just thankful for a home, food, a bathroom and the basic needs I need to live, so many in the world don’t even have that today. Praying for the people of Haiti, for the families that were/are in the adoption process and now in limbo, praying for the newly orphaned children in that country. If anyone deserves to say they are weary it is most definitely not me, right?

A Recap of 2009

Stole this idea from a bloggy friend (thanks Jeanette), but it is a great way to remember 12 months of blessings!! So here we go.....

January started the year out with a bang, I found out that I was pregnant. This brought so many mixed emotions: excitement, hope, fear, uncertainty. But we were hanging on to God's promises and knew we would be able to handle it whatever the outcome.

( yes, I took about a hundred tests, I just couldn't believe what they said)

In February our little guy was turning not so little and celebrated his 8th birthday! He reminds us everyday what a blessing he is. He is such a great brother, helper, encourager and just great kid. Even strangers come up to us and tell us how impressive our Ethan is and how blessed we must feel to have him!

March had mommy working through the blahs of pregnancy but realizing that it was for real this time. Ethan was gearing up for the upcoming soccer season and Charlotte was growing leaps and bounds in her speech and progress at school.

By April soccer was in full gear, Charlotte was really starting to come out of her shell, I was finally coming out of the 1st trimester blahs and Jay was as always keeping us all on track. This spring is when Charlotte starting to talk more to people at church and on the soccer field and just really seemed like most 2 year olds. We were realizing that she was catching up developmentally and emotionally. All the hard work was paying off, and she was becoming a little girl. Such progress in 17 short months. Charlotte learned to walk, talk, eat solid foods, give hugs and kisses, play with toys, play with children her own age, color and so much more simply amazing!

May was a month of celebrations: Mother's Day, Daddy's Birthday and our sweet cousin Hannah graduated from High School. We had so much fun celebrating each with family and friends. This is also the month we decided to put our house on the market. A growing family meant we needed more space. I know selling a house, buying a house and moving while 7 months pregnant seems crazy and it was, but we love our new house and so do the kids :) Charlotte also had her third surgery which included a nose revision, new ear tubes and removing her adnoids. She did an awesome job this time and let me console her in recovery. She drank some juice and that was our ticket out of the hospital. We did not have to stay overnight, which was an incredible blessing.

Ahhh......finally June. One of my favorite months of the year. It means the beginning of summer vacation, our annual trip to the beach (Outer Banks, NC) and Charlotte's birthday! And this year was no different, it was a great month!

Even with all this joy came some heartbreaking sadness as we lost my Uncle Bill. We all miss him so very much and think of him all the time. We love you Uncle Bill and we can't wait to see you again soon!

Not too much to report in July as I was really starting to feel extremely pregnant and HOT!!! We spend lots of time at home hanging out in the cool AC or the pool. Charlotte started swim lessons and loved them so much that she took all three sessions. She was a water bug. Not scared to go under the water or jump in. By the end she was starting to use her front crawl stroke, it was amazing. She loves the water, I see a future swim team member in our future.

August was a CRAZY month to say the least. We sold our old house and closed on our new house. Moved all our stuff, completely unpacked and started back to school (just one week for me.) August is some what of a blur except for the hours upon hours I spent in the Doctor's office. Since my pregnancy was high risk, I had to go in twice a week for non-stress tests on the baby. So I would sit hooked up to the baby monitor for at least an hour while they monitored the little ones movement. I was happy to know that all was well, but had so much to do it was hard to just lay there. But we got through it and the BIG day was quickly approaching! Jay and I also celebrated our 11th anniversary, so much has happened in just 11 years.

September brings one word AINSLEY!! Just 2 days after the first day of school we welcomed our little angel into the world. Everyone was instantly in love with this precious gift. She is a true jewel, always happy and smiling. She just lights up our lives and we are so thankful for her.

And on to October, the month Ethan earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. After almost 2 years of hard work Ethan earned his Black Belt. He does an awesome job in TKD, as in most things he tries. We are so proud of our guy!

November 5th we celebrated 2 years with our Charlotte. Can't believe how quickly time has flown by. This was the first year she really understood what Gotcha Day meant (a little). She knows that she came home from China on an airplane. Little by little she begins to understand, we talk about adoption a lot in our house so there are no secrets there. She was super excited to bring her ladybug cupcakes to school and celebrate with her class.

And finally December!!! We made through another year. A year of so many blessings and good times and some sad times. But through it all God was at work, shaping our family and our lives. We look forward to 2010 with much anticipation to see all that He will do.

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21

Whew, quite a week...

First, I willingly :)(ha!) went back to work on Wednesday. Luckily it was a short 2 1/2 days of work before the break. Friday night hosted an Open House for all our friends and new neighbors-fun! Sunday we celebrated my birthday (not telling which one) by having our sweet girl baptized. Then off to the races, school parties, wrapping, wrapping, wrapping, getting ready for the big day. Here are a couple of pics from our adventures. You will notice a difference in the Ainsley Santa Pictures, cause my awesome hubby bought me a new camera lense-I love him and love IT!! This is the way my sweet girl sleeps. On her tummy and sucking on her thumb. I have tried and tried to convince her that the pacifier would be a better choice than her thumb, but with no luck. She spits it out and finds her thumb instead everytime. And the tummy sleeping, I know it is outlawed these days but my poor girl has some pretty intense reflux (on medication) and back sleeping is not a option for us. Isn't she just so sweet!

I cherish Charlotte's gotcha video so much that I wanted to make one for Ainsley as well. And even though I birthed Ainsley, she still had a gotcha....the day we saw her in the world for the very first time. Many of you know that this was actually our 5th pregnancy (6th if you count our paper pregnancy.) Our 1st pregnancy gave us Ethan, our 2nd through 4th are little angels in heaven, our 5th is Charlotte, and our 6th Ainsley. After having Ethan we tried for 2 long years to have another baby. We even went through Invitro. We got pregnant twice, but lost both. That is when our hearts were opened to what God had in store for us and He gave us Charlotte. I really believe if we had another baby before Charlotte that we would not have her right now. We thought at first we were going with Plan B, but soon realized that it was God's plan all along. Then when we were 2 weeks out from leaving for China, I was pregnant again. But lost the baby soon after. I often thought to myself maybe God is just reminding me that I can get pregnant but to remember it is all in His hands. Then we started dossier #2 and shortly after completing our home study found out we were pregnant again. I was very guarded and did not tell anyone for a long time. I needed to be sure this time. As the weeks turned to months, I felt so grateful for the amazing gift growing inside of me. And she is so much more than we could have asked for or imagined. Our family, completely crafted by God. We could not have asked for anything more perfect. Hope you enjoy the video!

It is very normal for everyone to comment on how much Ainsley looks like Ethan. And it is true she is a spitting image of him at the same age. I will try to post a couple of pics later so all my bloggy friends can see what I mean. But as we all sit around admiring their likeness and whether or not Ainsley has my eyes or Daddy's nose, I worry about Charlotte. So I often add that Charlotte is my only child that has mommy's brown eyes (Ainsley and Ethan have their Daddy's blue eyes.) And right now it works, she gives me a big smile and her heart is full knowing she is "like" mommy. But what will happen in the future as people comment on Ethan and Ainsley's likeness, and Charlotte will not have that same thing happen for her. I have to come up with some more things that are the same about all three of my children I guess. It just worries me a little, I know we will figure it out and I know Charlotte will "get used to it." But mommies think about these things you know.

So this has been one of those weeks where I have had lots running through my head. And writing it down helps me work it all out. Anyway, here goes....

So having Ainsley has been such a tremendous blessing to all of us. I never thought in my wildest dreams that we would have an infant in our house again. It really helps me to cherish every single second with her. It also makes me sad for our Charlotte. It makes me think about where she was when she was Ainsley's size. How her cries, most likely went unanswered most times. How she did not have a mommy, daddy, brother and sister to love on her, and give sweet kisses and hugs. It hurts my heart so much. It also makes me think about Charlotte's birth mother, and the pain she must have felt giving her up and that she probably still feels. I can't even imagine losing Ainsley at such a young age. But at the same time, I rejoice in the fact that we are the lucky ones. Lucky enough to have Charlotte, to be able to meet all of her needs now. To see the absolute love in her eyes for her new baby sister. She is just smitten with her. It is amazing and truly a miracle.

And secondly, can you guys pray for me. I am already struggling with going back to work. I know I still have 2 months at home, but it is already weighing on me. I just don't want to miss anything. I don't want to miss a second with our sweet girl, or Charlotte and Ethan. It flies by so quickly and I know they will be leaving us before we know it. My one good babysitting lead, is probably not going to pan out, so that is stressing me as well. It just feels so weird to call someone you don't know to babysit your 3 month old. I am really struggling with this. So pray for us, for guidance and for acceptance about whatever the best decision is for our family. Even if it is a decision that I might now be that "thrilled" about.

Ethan had his Black Belt Test for Tae Kwon Do last night. He did an awesome job. He even broke his first 2 boards at the same time with one kick-wow! I did not get a pic of it, but I think Jay got it on video so I will try to post it later. His belting ceremony will be next Thurs. and he will even have to give a speech. We are very proud of him!

First Day of School

Here are my big kids all ready for the first day. Ethan was off to his first day of 3rd Grade and Charlotte was off to her 2nd year of Pre-school. They were both super excited, which makes this momma happy. The only bummer is that a low pressure system off the coast was causing torrential downpours. It was an awful morning, I could not believe the amount of rain that was falling. But it has cleared off now, so hopefully the trip home will be better. And less than 48 hours until little Ainsley is here. I am scheduled for my c-section on Thurs. at 10am, can't wait!

That is the day our little Ainsley will make her appearance. I am having a scheduled c-section, so we set the date at my appointment yesterday. So in a short 15 days our new little blessing will be in our arms. Please pray for our surgery, and for my nerves surrounding it. Also please pray for Charlotte and Ethan and the transition coming for our family!

So we are all moved into the new house, lots unpacked, still some to go but we are in a good spot. We feel so overwhelmingly blessed to have been able to buy this house, God has truly provided for us. The kids love their new rooms and they are huge, with plenty of space to share in the future - :) That was one of my biggest prayers that we would be able to find a house that could accomodate our family now and in the future. When I get a chance I will post some pictures, so that you can all enjoy it with us. Ethan has already made friends in the neighborhood and gets lots of compliments from the adult neighbors on his wonderful manners and disposition. And Charlotte is adjusting to the the size and feeling far away from mommy at times. But she is doing well and ready for school to start. Ainsley has just 3 weeks to go before she makes her appearance. I will have a c-section on or before Sept. 14th most likely. I am excited to meet my new little one but a little scared of the surgery. I have not had surgery since becoming a mom and it is a little more intense now. I have done much better with the move physically than I thought I would. I have had so much help, my wonderful hubby of course, my mom and sister, Jay's parents and sister and brother in law, and lots and lots of help from our church family. It is amazing how much has been accomplished in a week and a half. Thank you to everyone who pitched in we could not have done it without you. Well that's it for now, off to do more organizing and unpacking. I will keep you updated on our new munchkin and when she will be here-I still can't believe I will have little tiny fingers and toes in my house again-amazing blessing!!

I am thankful for so many things today but here are a few:

1. Thankful that my pregnancy is continuing to progress with no complications. Ainsley is growing big and strong-already measuring over 5 lbs. This is so huge for us as we really did not think we would have any other biological children. What a blessing God has given us. We can't wait to meet our little "chunky monkey." (seriously you should see the chub on her ultrasounds pics)

2. Thankful that our house sold in just 8 weeks, and that we found a beautiful new house to move into. It is perfect for our growing family and will meet our needs for a long time to come. So thankful that we have the resources to buy it and can't wait to move in - 13 days and counting!

3. Thankful that my husband understands that I cannot bend over at the moment or lift anything given my current condition :) He has done an amazing job packing and listening to his supervisor - LOL!

4. Thankful that Charlotte is POTTY TRAINED!!! And that she loves to swim. You would not believe the fish she is in the water, it is amazing. I have some video and hope to post it when life slows a little.

5. Thankful that Ethan loves to help his mommy. He has helped so much with Charlotte and the house and move this summer. He realizes that I need extra help right now and he jumps right in, most of the time willingly. I can't believe he will be starting the 3rd Grade in just a month, time flies by so quickly.

Just surfing around on the net this afternoon and found a great blog post on the Show Hope Blog that I wanted to share with you. So click HERE and then come back...........

Okay, isn't that a cool post and so very true. You know we are still completing our 2nd dossier for China, even though, little Ainsley is on her way. To be perfectly honest, we have waivered back and forth several times on this road. We started the process before we knew Ainsley was a part of our family, and I was a little sad at first to think that maybe we had messed up and that God's plan for our 3rd addition was not in China but born in my womb instead. I really did grieve, not knowing if we were to be parents of 4 kids-which just 2 years ago seemed completely in sane. But after praying and praying, we have pressed on knowing God would not have placed another China blessing on our hearts just because. And although it seems like a hard road right now, and I admit a little insane, we just can't give up on our 4th addition. So until God shows us otherwise we are still pressing on, walking in faith, knowing He will lead our steps and we will be blessed beyond measure. But just as the Show Hope post says, we have been tempted and fooled by the enemy, even just yesterday. We just received a contract on our house and need to find a new, bigger, house to close on by Aug. 20th. Well the house hunt is not going as well as I hoped, mostly because I really want to have 5 bedrooms or 4 large ones and 3 bathrooms. I just know with 4 kids we would need that space, and I don't want to outgrow our house again. So last night after hunting all afternoon with no luck, I wondered maybe we are only supposed to have 3 kids, it would make this search a lot easier. See how easily he sneaks in. But after reading surfing around today, I know that is not true. We are called to bring another blessing home. It may be in 2 years or 3, but we will be ready and God will work it all out. That I know!

Just a Great Kid

I often blog about Charlotte, I think because I spend more time with her than Ethan (he is always busy and likes it that way) and because she lets me take more pictures of her :) But I wanted to take some time to do a post all about my oldest baby. I know I have said it before but he really is an all around GREAT KID. I have never met anyone that makes friends as quickly as he does, and who just genuinely likes to be around people. He is always on the go, never stays in one place to long and often has his whole day planned out by 9am. The week before last Ethan spent his first week at Triple R Ranch, a christian overnight camp. Both Jay and I worked there as counselors in college and still stay in touch with many of the staff members. We were so excited for him to go and this was the first summer he was old enough to attend. I was a little concerned that he may get homesick, but we did not hear a single peep from him all week. I just considered no news was good news. When we got there to pick him up on Friday, he talked non-stop about all the fun he had. I asked him if he had missed us. He said, "Do you want me to tell the truth?" So our big 8 year old is independent and confident enough to spend an entire week away from home :( But it does show what kind of kid he is, doesn't it.

Also at the beginning of June, Ethan earned his junior Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Only 2 more tests until that coveted black belt-wow!

And, Ethan tried out for the Advanced Soccer Team for his age group and made it. He was blown away and is super excited to be on a traveling team that will go to tournaments. We are pretty proud of our Great Kid, and feel so blessed that God gave him to us.

Our Baby Girl is 3!!

Today is Charlotte's 3rd birthday. I can hardly believe it. She is in so many ways a different little girl than the one who came home almost 20 months ago, but in some ways exactly the same. She can give us a total run for our money one second, and completely still our hearts with her sweet smile and precious little voice. She has learned so much in the last year, how to eat solid food, how to talk, she is starting to use the pottie, loves the pool, loves ELMO, and loves to do whatever Ethan is doing. We are so proud of all she has accomplished this year and can't wait to see her in the Big Sis role. Happy Birthday sweet girl, we love you!!

Loss-update

Update:
Ethan wrote this letter today without me even knowing it. He asked if his Nana could take when they lay Uncle Bill to rest in Maine. Such an innocent little heart.

The beginning of summer has been hard for us, unfortunately. We have had to endure a very hard loss in the family with the passing of my Uncle Bill. We have gone through so much with his passing, more than I would wish on any family. Without going into detail, please know that my family could really use your prayers for the next few months as we work through the whys and our overwhelming grief at times. Please pray that each of us will be able to refrain from blaming ourselves, and have peace. Peace in knowing that we were blessed to share 42 years with him, even though those years were way to short.

²⁸"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. ²⁹Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ³⁰For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

This verse has brought tremendous comfort at this time. Pray if you would too for our Ethan. This is the first time he has really experienced the loss of someone close to him. He really was Uncle Bill's little buddy and Ethan misses him a lot. He also just has lots of questions about death, very innocent questions, but he is still working through all of this in his mind.

We have finally decided on a name for our little blessing. Ainsley Elizabeth....story behind the name? We were discussing names on our last date night at PF Changs and Jay just said how about Ainsley, and I liked it. I also have always liked Elizabeth and when I looked up it's meaning it means "God's Promise." We thought that was completely appropriate...given we followed his call to Charlotte and his has more than fulfilled his promises by blessing us with Ainsley. It so nice to talk about her as a real person and not just "the baby."

A little catching up..

Thought I would take a few minutes to catch up on blogging. So much has been going on lately, as usual, right, but still wanted to document everything.

First we decided instead of renovating our existing house that we would, put it on the market and look for something bigger. We have not brought a single "baby" item into our house yet and we were already feeling cramped. Plus this is a perfect time to get more for your money, larger houses are selling for less in our area. The key will be to sell our house. We have found a house that we absolutely love just about 2-3 miles from where we are so we are hopeful. Just praying that the right family walks through our house and that we have a contract before the end of June. It would be nice to move before the end of August, before school starts again, and before we the baby comes. The only bummer about selling your house is keeping it "show ready" 24/7, that is a real task but it will be worth it in the end.

On the kid front: our #1 is ready for school to be out!! He just loves being outside and can't wait to stay out until he is ready to come in, which does not happen on school nights. Our last day is June 11th so we are close but not quite there yet. Ethan has decided that he is ready for an overnight camp this summer. So he will be spending a week at Triple R Ranch, a christian camp right here in our area. Jay and I were both counselors there in the summers during college, so we are excited for him to go. He is also trying out for the Advanced U9 Soccer team for next year. I think it will be a wonderful opportunity for him.

Our #2 is totally and completely obsessed with ELMO. We must watch at least 3 different episodes of Elmo's World everyday, she just loves him. She is really starting to use lots of two and three word phrases, which is exciting to see. She has recovered so well from her last surgery, much faster than the other two. She loves the pool, so she will definitely be taking swim lessons this summer.

And our #3 is very close to having a name. Jay and I are just deciding between two names and want to make sure it is the one before we share. With Ethan, no one knew his name until he was born except for us, but I can't hold it in this time, I don't think. So we will be sharing soon. I am feeling her move lots, and it is obvious to everyone now that I am pregnant. Getting lots of those, wow you are really popping out, when are you due? comments. Of course then I answer, September 20th, so a while. Oh....it is going to be a long summer. Yes, thanks so much for the encouragement. I think we forget what it feels like to be pregnant, once the babies are here and forget about how those comments feel sometimes. But we take it all in stride.

Jay and I are hanging in there and ready for the summer. I love being home everyday and Jay loves it that he can wear polo shirts instead of ties so we are ready. Thanks for checking in on us. I hope to be back with some photos soon.

Hanging in There

Today was Charlotte's best day so far. Her energy level was up and pain was controlled with just plain tylenol. She is still having a little trouble eating. She gets tired easily as it is hard to open very wide and the surgeons did do some work on her front gums as well. So jello and ice-cream are still a big favorite. Yesterday was fun, as Charlotte was still in quite a bit of pain and Ethan had a stomach virus. Poor guy was quarantined to his bedroom in an attempt to contain the germs. The last thing we need is for Charlotte to catch that too. Ethan was much better today as well and was able to go to his soccer game. He scored a goal today!!! He has been a little frustrated as he usually scores in games, but had been coming so close without the prize. Well, today was the day, he dribbled down field, faked a player out, then was tripped. He jumped up and tried again only to fall, again, roll over and still managed to kick it past the goalie. He was not going to let his opportunity pass him by! He is a bit competitive, and I have no idea where he gets it??? (As I am on many a home video, yelling, LOL!!) And our #3 little one is also doing well, have I mentioned that it is a girl!!! She is very active and loves to do somersaults, on my bladder of course. I am felling much better as of late, so praying that will continue for the next few weeks at least. So that is it for us, hope all my friends out there have a fabulous Mother's Day!!

Charlotte is Home from the Hospital

Charlotte did well in surgery. She woke up mad but let me comfort her immediately. She did not have any fistulas (holes) in her palate so we were able to come home once she drank some juice. So we arrived at 5:30am and were leaving by noon, an answer to prayer. So we are home and settling in. Thanks for your prayers, we would still appreciate them for a speedy, comfortable recovery.

I just read a post of a fellow AWAA family waiting to travel Ethiopia and bring home their little girl. (click here to read their story.) Their daughter came to America World's Transistional Home very malnourished, and apparently lots of infants entering the home are facing the same situation. When the babies are this malnourished, their bodies cannot digest regular infant formula. Instead they need a special formula that is $30 a can. Well now Tom Davis, author of Red Letters and Fields of the Fatherless, is getting involved. His ministry Children's Hope Chest, is stepping in to raise $12,500 to buy this special formula for America World's Transistion Home. Check out Tom Davis's blog here to find out how you can help.

Secondly, will you please pray for Charlotte tomorrow as she is scheduled for surgery in the morning. She will be have a nose revision/reconstruction, ear tubes, and part of her adnoids removed. She may have further repairs to her palate as well, but won't know until the surgery begins. Pray that she remains comfortable in the hospital, and that her recovery will be quick and smooth. Digital Scrapbooking

I know most of you already know that I dabble a little in Digital Scrapbooking. Until now I have used the program Foto Fusion which is very user friendly and easy to figure out. I use it for blog design as well and it is a very inexpensive softward option. I would highly recommend it to anyone just starting out in the Digi Scrapbook world. But, I have wanted to do more and for Christmas my wonderful husband bought me Photoshop Elements. Well, it is TOO HARD to figure out on your own, and I finally found and awesome online line class. The class has video tutorials and assignments that you complete all on your own. I did lesson one today and it was GREAT!! I knew that once I learned photoshop I would love it and be able to do so much more, so now I am finally on my way. If you are interested in the class you can find it here at Jessica Sprague.com.
